Ex-Komeito party head Takeiri dies at 97

Yoshikatsu Takeiri, former chairman of Japan's Komeito party, is interviewed on Aug. 20, 1992. Takeiri, who is known for playing a vital role in the 1972 Japan-China diplomatic normalization, died of pneumonia at age 97 on Dec. 23, 2023, at a hospital in southwestern Japan city of Fukuoka.
